Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between an active and passive contact microphone?
Passive contact microphones lack an internal preamplifier. Due to the inherent characteristics of contact transducers, this limits their ability to capture low and mid frequencies with the same accuracy as higher frequencies.
Active contact microphones address this limitation by integrating a dedicated impedance-matching circuit, optimized for modern field recorders, audio interfaces, and mixing desks.
Do I need phantom power (48v) to use the Su-1 contact microphone?
Yes. This is needed to power the electronics inside the microphone.
Is the Su-1 microphone waterproof?
The Su-1 contact microphone is not waterproof.
How do I use the Su-1 contact microphone?
Simple!
First, make sure your audio interface/field recording device/mixer has a phantom power supply option (also known as +48v). This function must be enabled for the microphone to work properly.
Second, make sure your gain knob is set at a soft level, and then plug the XLR cable from the microphone into your recording device, and again make sure phantom power is on.
Then you can place the microphone wherever you want to record! You can use the provided suction cup or magnet to help attach it to various surfaces.
